The electric car market is still a very small but an exciting one with many auto makers working hard to produce the most innovative and groundbreaking vehicles. Gas prices are exorbitantly expensive plus many people want to be more eco-conscious and drive a "greener" vehicle. Two of the most discussed vehicles in this market are the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf. It seems that the Volt is outselling the Leaf by quite a wide margin. Chevy has announced that they expect sales to increase even more and that they are awaiting a shipment of 10,000 more Volt cars. There are a few reasons why the electric auto niche in general is off to a bit of a slow start.
One factor is price. We are currently in a recession and the base price for the Volt stands at around $40k. That is not cheap for the typical new car buyer. Still, the federal government is offering a tax credit of around $7,000 for people who buy an electric car. So the original sticker shock is not as pricey as it seems; however it is still out of reach for bargain conscious shoppers maxidiag elite md802 all systems. Another issue is the number of charging stations across the nation; there are just not enough charging stations to sustain a large number of drivers. Finally the electric grid needs to be upgraded so that it can take on the thousands or even millions of electric cars some people expect to be on the road someday. Could this be slowing sales?
Range limitation is probably the biggest issue for consumers at the moment. Drivers are afraid of their car running out of juice before they can recharge. Range Anxiety is a legitimate concern with the Leaf, but the Volt doesn't because it is also powered by a regular motor. Most electric autos do not have this luxury. One company which has stepped onto the scene with a splash is Fisker with the gorgeous Karma autel ms908p. This pure electric car has two driving modes -- Stealth and Sport. It has a top speed of 95 mph in the Stealth mode and sprints from 0-60 in 7.9 seconds. The Sports Mode has a top speed of 125 mph and goes from 0-60 in 5.9 seconds
Let's take a look at a few electric offerings which will be available soon.
The electric Ford Focus is scheduled for release later this year. Range will be around 100 miles and Ford has not yet released official pricing.
Another option is the small MiEV I; ot is one-third the size of the Leaf, can generate 63 horsepower and has a top speed of about 80 mph. Range is about 75-85 miles. It will be available in a few select states to start off. The Smart ED (Electric Drive) has a range of about 74 to 80 miles, and a will take around 3.5 hours to recharge. It will only be available via lease at $599 per month. Unfortunately leasing is the only option, there is no option to buy.
